About 60 % of China's population make their living directly or indirectly from agriculture. Although it is believed that population growth in China will stop at about 1.5 Billion until 2050, the available utilisable agricultural area per capita of population is now already steadily declining. In addition agriculture in China is facing serious environmental problems such as erosion, desertification and scarcity of water and man- made problems like storage and transport losses. These problems can only be tackled with comprehensive farm management, technical and crop-specific investments. In the field of livestock husbandry China expects greater growth in the coming years. In view of the rising incomes of the Chinese consumers, the demand for food products of animal provenance and high quality will increase substantially. As a consequence issues of animal breeding, animal husbandry and feeding will become particularly important.
The Chinese farming and food sectors have shown great achievements in the past decades by intensive use of farm inputs and by expanding irrigated farming. However, the problems now on the agenda cannot be mastered without forward-looking technology and know-how based on many years of experience. Modern concepts and solutions are required. The Chinese government acknowledges this fact: agriculture receives priority status and special attention in the present 5 year plan and supporting programmes to boost agricultural and rural development are under way.
The first agriChina was successfully staged in August 2004 at the SNIEC Shanghai New International Exhibition Center, Shanghai, followed by the second edition, held in Beijing in April 2006. agriChina 2007 in Beijing now provides a close link up to the extensive agricultural regions in the North-Western provinces of China, to the influential managers and the political decision-makers of the Chinese agriculture and its related industries.
The German Agricultural Society ( DLG - Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft - Agriservice GmbH), supported by VDMA Agricultural Machinery Association, Frankfurt, offers its members and the companies of the German agricultural machinery industry participating in agriChina from April 26 to 28, 2007 at the CIAE China National Agricultural Exhibition Center at Beijing an outstanding platform for their take-off in the largest expanding and most dynamic agricultural market in Eastern Asia.
